We've got some big announcement news on the Mama Mañana Records front, plus all the latest from Slowdive, Apex Twin, Anna St. Louis, Janelle Monáe, Lydia Loveless, Peggy Gou, and more!
While I think JW is one of the best producers in the game right now, it’s so exciting to have another record of his on the way, especially after how great Dixie Blur was a few years ago!
I'm excited for this release! Hopefully, I'll have a tape deck by the time it comes out. Lol.
As for what I'm listening to; I spent a good chunk of this morning giving Tommy Stinson's Cowboys in the Campfire "Wronger" record a spin. It feels like it was recorded in one of those backyards that has light bulbs strung up through it. I say that as high praise; it's pretty clear everyone on this record is having a blast. Tried to play Rickie lee Jones' latest, it's nice, but I cut it off after 2-3 songs. An album of torch songs is a bad fit for an early morning shift.
Finding a tape deck in working order is a whole other story, ha!
Had no idea about this new Tommy Stinson project and gave it a list... as someone with string lights in the backyard, I agree! Definitely not the sound I was expecting from him. I can't say I'm familiar with Rickie Lee Jones outside of the obvious with "Chuck E.'s in Love" but I'm always weary of a (typically) older artist releasing an album of standards... no thanks!
Great mix! Really enjoyed the Jonathan Wilson track with its unexpected sax solos!
