The best of the best featuring Weyes Blood, patchnotes, billy woods, Brothertiger, Alvvays, Angel Olsen, Garcia Peoples, Animal Collective, The Beths, and Daniel Avery.
I'd sort of given up on Angel Olsen after 'All Mirrors' so thanks for prompting me to give her another try with 'Big Time', it's def a big improvement.
Thanks, Tim! I’m with you 100% which makes me appreciate Big Time even more. Loved it when it came out earlier this year and when I revisited the album for year-end, I found all kinds of new parts I appreciated. That’s a good record in my book!
Need to give the billy woods album a full listen. Upon release, I only listened to the song with the Boldy James feature because I'm a fan of him. But I knew the full album was going to be a complex layered listen and your description 100% confirmed that. There are some others on here that peaked my interest too!
Love Boldy James as well! The two with The Alchemist last year are top notch and I dug Mr. Ten08 this year. Have the new one on my list for the break - dude is productive! Some great features on the billy woods record and it definitely rewards those who really take time with it.
Not at all. I’ve had plenty of people say they’re not into this record, and I won’t hold it against anyone, ha! It really does reward multiple listens (the b-side has really floored me lately) and I’m a sucker for 70s LA soft rock, so it’s right in my sweet spot. I’ll also note that the cassette brings out a lot of detail not found in the streaming version.
Looking forward to next year and I know we both already have anticipated records.!

Great list, here's to '23!

Am I... am I the only one that isn't on the Weyes Blood train? Wouldn't be the first time I've been late to the party. Might have to fix that ASAP.
Killer final list, btw. We've already talked about it, but what a year this was for new music! I'm hoping that carries through to '23.
