Check Out "Fool," the New Single From Lowmello Ahead of His EP Release on Mama Mańana Records!

The Albuquerque musician learns his lessons and grows up on his first new batch of songs in three years. Plus, this week's new music playlist!

The last time I had any updates for Mama Mañana Records was the final day of 2022 when Lowmello dropped his new single, “That Sweet Breath,” and we promised you more to come. Well, dear reader, that day is here, with his new song, “Fool,” on all streaming platforms today. The news gets even better: Lowmello’s latest EP, also called That Sweet Breath, will be out on March 31st via Mama Mañana Records!

“Fool” and That Sweet Breath find Abel John (Lowmello) with a new sense of growth in the past year. He touched on it in the title track's lyrics, finding unique moments of clarity in meditation practice, but “Fool” goes back to the root of John’s life adjustment when he was arrested for drunk driving almost a year ago.

The song “tells the story of a fool who didn't make the best choices one particular night,” says John. When we discussed the video last month, I appreciated and respected John wanting to use the actual APD bodycam footage of his arrest and turn the music video into a drunk driving PSA. Publicly sharing a life event like this is something most people want to turn away from, and I applaud Abel John for confronting it head-on. Lessons have been learned, and “Fool” looks back at how one night can change your trajectory.

That Sweet Breath includes three other new songs, “Red Lipstick,” “26,” and “Andrew.” Not only will it be available on digital and cassette tape, but the EP will also be the first MMR release to find its way to compact disc so you can take Lowmello on the road! Pre-orders will be available soon.

Abel John played all of the instruments on the EP, which was co-produced and mixed by Kendall Jones (Homebody, Midnight Sugar, and a whole bunch of other projects) at Messy Grass Studio in Albuquerque.
