8 Rad Music Costumes I Found at Spirit Halloween
Plus, MMR's latest release is out today - Mareas de Oro by Gold Tides!
It’s an exciting day at Mama Mañana Records as Mareas de Oro by Gold Tides is streaming everywhere! Now!
Mareas de Oro is a ripping set of six songs the Santa Fe surf goth band culled from their early days and revisited to match the sound of where they’re at a few years later. You may have already heard “So Far so Good” and “Satanas,” the singles from this summer, but I’m partial to “Sunni Part 2” and “Sweettart”!
As we’re well familiar with after the last few years, there is a supply chain issue with the cassette tapes. But have no fear. They should arrive at MMR HQ sometime next week. I’ll have them posted on Bandcamp, or you can reply to this newsletter or text or DM me on Instagram (@kilarzleesen), and I’ll get you set up with a copy. Or, if you’re in Santa Fe, pick up a copy at Lost Padre Records!
Also, in Gold Tides news, they’re wrapping up a massive year with a show this weekend at the Jean Cocteau Theatre in Santa Fe. The band is premiering their new film, The Void, and playing a live set to accompany it, which includes songs from Mareas de Oro. If you’re local, grab a ticket here, and say ‘hi’ as I’ll be working the merch table and selling MMR t-shirts and Hubba tapes!
This week I popped into Spirit Halloween (or was it an abandoned Mervyn’s?) and couldn’t believe all of the fantastic costumes they’re offering this year! Here are some of my favorites that I thought my readers would enjoy - if you weren’t a subscriber last year, take a look at some Halloween tunes I covered that are outside the usual rotation! Candlemass anyone?
Are there any Spirit Halloween costumes you’d like to see next year? Let me know in the comments.
+1 for the Mervyn’s reference! That’s a name I haven’t heard in a while.
